Foundation Waterproofing
The foundation is the foundation of any building, responsible for its overall strength. If the foundation cracks, the crack will spread along the wall and all the way to the roof. If it gets wet, dampness will spread throughout the entire house. It is the foundation that is most exposed to the most destructive factor – moisture. To prevent damage to such an important building component, it is customary to waterproof the foundation, as well as the basement. Basements, if present, are also waterproofed.

Polyurea is the best waterproofing agent
Builders have used many different materials to waterproof foundations, basements, and cellars. Strip foundations were wrapped in polyethylene film, covered with fused roofing, roofing felt, and coated with bitumen. However, each of these types of waterproofing materials has its drawbacks. This mess, with endless repairs, would have continued if polyurea hadn't appeared one fine day.Polyurea can be called your home's waterproofing armor. Strong and flexible, it is durable and impervious to virtually all external destructive factors, including mechanical damage.
Polyurea Properties
- High tensile and fracture strength.
- Abrasion resistance.
- High adhesion to virtually all materials.
- Chemical and biological resistance.
- Fire resistance and non-flammability.
- Fast curing speed.
- UV resistance.
- Fast application speed.
- Ability to withstand extreme temperatures, both low and high.
- Easy repair.
- Durability.
How to Waterproof a Foundation and Basement
The foundation and basement are treated with polyurea from the outside. Foundation treatment should be performed before the pit is backfilled. The strip itself must be installed so that the distance between the pit wall and the foundation allows workers to easily access any point. The treatment itself does not take much time. A good team of three people can treat up to 500 m2 of surface per shift. Polyurea hardens in seconds, and the pit can be backfilled within an hour of waterproofing completion. The basement is treated in the same way, the only difference being that it is above ground.
Basement Waterproofing
It is advisable to waterproof the basement on both the exterior and interior. The exterior is the same as the foundation, so no special work is required. The interior is treated to prevent condensation from wetting the walls. This will inevitably occur if the room is poorly ventilated. If the wall is left unprotected, it will become damp and begin to deteriorate. It's worth noting that it's best to leave the basement floor earthen. This will provide additional protection from excess moisture. What You Need to Know
If you've chosen polyurea as your waterproofing material, you should remember a few simple rules.- Before treatment, the surface should be thoroughly prepared, sealing all large cracks, cavities, voids, and other depressions, and caulking any seams.
- The substrate surface must be cleaned of dirt, dust, and loose elements. It is also advisable to remove any greasy stains.
- Avoid applying polyurea in a thick layer. This will prevent overuse of material and areas with drips, which not only spoil the appearance but can also cause damage to the coating.
