Cellar insulation with polyurethane foam

It's impossible to imagine a country house without a cellar. This simple structure ensures the safe storage of food supplies, including various fruits and vegetables, and canned goods. Some may even need it as a place to create a wine cellar with a specific microclimate. The main challenge in constructing such a cellar is the need to ensure an optimal microclimate in conditions of high groundwater levels and significant soil freezing depth. The most reliable solution to this problem is to insulate the cellar with polyurethane foam, a material with unique thermal properties.

Advantages of choosing polyurethane foam insulation

This insulation technology is widely used for thermal insulation of various buildings. The advisability of using polyurethane foam specifically for basements is based on the following performance characteristics of the material:

• The minimal thermal conductivity coefficient allows for spraying a thin layer of polyurethane foam to achieve the required level of thermal insulation.
• The material's 95% closed-cell structure ensures minimal moisture absorption. Additional waterproofing of the basement is not required when insulating with polyurethane foam.
• Polyurethane foam-based thermal insulation is recommended for use in rooms intended for storing various products and is completely environmentally safe.
• Insulating a basement without complex preparatory work is easy. Polyurethane foam adheres perfectly to any material (wood, steel, concrete, brickwork), and its high adhesion is considered one of its key features. Moreover, installation of thermal insulation does not require the use of additional fasteners.
• The resulting basement surface is resistant to mechanical damage, and to protect the polyurethane foam from ultraviolet radiation, it can be simply plastered or painted.
• This class of thermal insulation can be applied to the exterior of the building's foundation structures during construction. However, in most cases, internal spraying of polyurethane foam is used, as this technology is simpler to implement.

The cost of insulating a basement with polyurethane foam is only slightly higher than that of mineral wool insulation. However, using polyurethane foam provides a significant economic benefit due to the durability of the coating and the elimination of the need for a frame or additional waterproofing materials.
